A prefinished floor can be laid and used at once, but once it is down there is little room for correction: mistakes in the substrate or in the levels show. The screed must be dry, flat and clean; laying follows the producer&#8217;s instructions on the moisture content of the substrate, which is measured with an instrument and written in a report before work begins. If you lay on a screed that is still damp, the wood absorbs the water and deforms even months later. This is why engineered boards are generally the more prudent choice, especially in wide planks, while solid wood needs more care.
