Private jet charter, chosen the way you choose a home

A private jet charter is not chosen from photographs: what counts is the certified operator, the contract and the costs in writing. The same method Elite Luxury Real Estate applies to villas.

Private jet charter: what you are really buying

Private jet charter is about time, privacy and control of your itinerary. But before anything else it is about understanding what you buy. A client who books a private jet charter does not buy an aircraft: they buy a flight, that is, an air transport service performed by a certified operator, with a crew, a specific aircraft and a specific insurance cover.

Elite Luxury Real Estate reads a flight the way it reads a villa: it looks at the data, checks who is responsible and insists that costs are written down. This page explains how private jet charter works, what drives the price, which certificates to ask for and which Italian airports to use. At the bottom you will find the charter websites we consult.

One important clarification. Elite Luxury Real Estate is not an air carrier and it is not a broker. We do not collect flight requests and we do not add mark-ups. The links lead to official websites, where price, availability and contract are confirmed by the operator concerned.

How private jet charter works: broker, operator and carrier

A charter flight involves at least three parties. There is the client, who asks for a trip. There is the air operator, the company that runs the aircraft and answers for the execution of the flight. And there is almost always a broker, who searches the market for the right aircraft and brings the proposal to the client.

Brokers’ own terms say where their role ends. AlbaJet states that it acts as an intermediary, that it does not operate aircraft and that it does not provide air transport. LunaJets describes itself as a charter flight broker acting only as an intermediary between clients and third-party air operators. Villiers says it operates as a charter broker connecting customers with third-party operators.

The practical consequence is simple: responsibility for the flight lies with the operator, not with the website where you asked for the quote. That is why the first question to ask a broker is who will operate the flight and which air operator certificate that company holds.

The typical process is short. You give the departure and arrival airports, dates, times if known and the number of passengers. The broker checks availability and sends a quotation with several aircraft options, as Cielo Aviation describes in its booking instructions. The charter contract comes afterwards, with price, payment terms and bank details.

What drives the price of a private jet charter

The price of a flight does not depend on distance alone. It reflects the aircraft category, the flight duration, the season, the day and time, and whether the flight is one-way or return. It also reflects empty positioning flights, the flights an operator must make to bring the aircraft to the departure point: in AlbaJet’s terms they are part of the very definition of a flight.

Some items are often not included. In AlbaJet’s terms, for example, onboard Wi-Fi, SATCOM services, special catering requests and VIP terminal fees are excluded unless the contract says otherwise. Knowing what is included matters as much as knowing the figure.

Online estimates for private jet charter are indicative. AlbaJet states that its market prices are non-binding and that the tailored offer, after comparing aircraft, is also non-binding. For that reason, unlike many guides, we do not publish hourly rates here: we did not find a primary, up-to-date source, and every figure depends on the moment. It must be requested in writing.

Cancellation also changes from contract to contract. As an example, AlbaJet provides compensation of 50% of the contract price after signing and 100% if the cancellation occurs within 15 days of the departure of the first flight. Other operators have different rules: read them before you sign, not after.

Private jet charter categories: from very light to long range

Operators organise their fleets by category. The list LunaJets publishes on its site runs from turboprop to very light jet, from light jet to midsize and super midsize, up to large jet and long range, with models from manufacturers such as Gulfstream, Bombardier, Dassault Aviation, Cessna, Embraer and Pilatus.

Private jet charter categories grow with cabin size, range and passenger numbers. But the model name matters less than three questions. How many people are travelling, and with how much luggage? How far must you fly without a technical stop? From which runway do you depart and on which do you land?

The third question surprises people most. Some airports, especially by lakes and on islands, have runways or restrictions that exclude certain aircraft. In private jet charter a bigger aircraft is not always the better one. That is why a serious broker proposes several alternatives and explains why one choice is not advisable.

Those who often fly the same route can also consider a smaller aircraft better suited to the arrival runway, which lands closer to the destination. It is the same reasoning as with a villa: location sometimes matters more than square metres.

Empty legs in private jet charter: when they make sense

An empty leg is a flight the aircraft must make without passengers, in order to reposition. LunaJets explains that chartering one can save up to 75% compared with a standard charter, and up to 50% if you accept a small deviation of the route. These are figures declared by the broker, to be read as orders of magnitude and not as promises.

The condition is flexibility. Every empty leg offer has a start and end date and time: it is the window in which the flight is available. At the end the aircraft must in any case leave for its next flight. If your dates are fixed, or you need a return flight, an empty leg is rarely right for you.

An empty leg makes sense in private jet charter when you travel one-way, have a few days of margin and no constraint on the exact airport. It does not make sense when your diary is fixed. Always ask the broker whether empty legs exist on your route: in private jet charter they are often not published.

Airports for private jet charter in Italy

In private jet charter the choice of airport is half the journey. A terminal dedicated to general aviation usually offers a private area and ground-handling services; some airports also mention customs and immigration assistance. Here is what the official websites say about the airports our clients use most.

Verona Villafranca

Verona airport states that it offers ground-handling services for private flights, aimed at efficiency, safety and comfort for passengers and crews. For details and bookings it refers to the handling operators’ websites. It is the natural airport for Lake Garda, Valpolicella and the villas of north-east Italy.

Milan Linate and Malpensa

Milano Linate Prime and Milano Malpensa Prime are the general aviation airports run by SEA Prime S.p.A., a company controlled by SEA. SEA Prime’s website lists services such as ground handling, fuelling, catering, concierge, limousine, customs and immigration.

Venice Marco Polo

At Venice, private flights are handled by General Aviation, SAVE’s ground-handling agent. The website describes a position on the west side of the runway, allowing a quick transfer from aircraft to private jetty, and private lounges for guests.

Olbia Costa Smeralda

At Olbia, private flights are assisted by Eccelsa Aviation S.r.l., a company created by Geasar in 2007. According to Geasar’s website it operates from a dedicated terminal open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It offers aircraft assistance, hangarage, catering and limousine services.

How to read a private jet charter quotation, line by line

A flight quotation is not a figure: it is a document. Before accepting, check that it contains at least six elements. The name of the operator of the flight. The assigned aircraft or category. Airports, dates and times of departure and arrival. What is included and what is excluded. The cancellation conditions. The payment terms.

In AlbaJet’s terms the charter contract states the price, the payment terms, the currency and the bank details. The contract is deemed confirmed only when the full price, or the deposit indicated, has been received. Until then quotations may change, as the same broker warns. It is therefore worth asking how long a quotation remains valid.

A second check concerns the aircraft. If a technical problem, weather or airport restrictions prevent the flight from being operated as planned, AlbaJet’s terms say the broker will look for an alternative: another operator, another aircraft, a different airport or a different time. Ask in advance what happens in these cases: it is where contracts differ most.

Finally check who pays for what. Handling, airport charges, catering and onboard services can be included or excluded. A lower proposal without these items is not necessarily cheaper. Put the offers side by side and compare them line by line, as you would two bills of quantities.

Helicopters, air taxis and jets: which aircraft for which route

A jet is not always the answer. For short routes, or to reach places without a suitable runway, some operators also offer helicopters. Cielo Aviation offers helicopter transfers and tours; Eccelsa Aviation at Olbia lists air taxi and helitaxi among its services; Class One Group, an Italian company based in Rome, describes helicopter operations alongside jet charter and ground transfers.

The choice depends on three elements: distance, departure and arrival points, and number of people. On a short route a helicopter can avoid a stretch of road, but it has lower capacity and range than a jet. On a long route a private jet charter remains the best-suited option, especially if you want a spacious cabin and short travel times.

The runway rule applies here too. A helicopter can land where a jet cannot, but it is subject to its own rules. That is why the right question, for any aircraft, is where it lands and where it stops, not only how much it costs.

Three scenarios where private jet charter makes sense

The private jet charter scenarios below are editorial examples, not offers. They help to understand when a private flight is the reasonable solution and when it is not.

The first private jet charter scenario is a same-day property visit. A client considering a villa in Sardinia can leave Verona in the morning, see the property and return in the evening. By scheduled flight, between connections and checks, the same day becomes two. In this case private jet charter buys time, not luxury.

The second private jet charter scenario is travel between several residences. Someone with a lake house, a seaside home and a city apartment often travels short, poorly served routes. For that client frequency matters: compare several operators and ask for conditions for recurring flights.

The third private jet charter scenario is a family trip with pets or a lot of luggage. Some operators offer pet-friendly flights and allow more luggage than scheduled airlines. Here too the request must be made in advance, because it depends on the aircraft and the destination.

Safety and certification in private jet charter: what to ask before you sign

In private jet charter the most important question is one: who is flying? The European regulation on air operations provides that, before starting commercial air transport operations, an operator must apply for and obtain an air operator certificate, known as AOC, issued by the competent authority.

In Italy the authority is ENAC, which publishes the list of certified operators. The list is updated at least once a year, the latest update shown is 25 March 2026, and ENAC warns that it should be consulted for guidance only. For operators from other countries you need the list of the issuing authority.

Before signing a private jet charter contract, ask for five things in writing. The name of the flight operator. The AOC number and the country that issued it. The assigned aircraft, with year and type. The insurance covering passengers. Confirmation that, if the aircraft changes, you will be told before departure.

Some brokers declare safety certifications such as ARGUS or membership of the European association EBAA. These are claims made on their sites: useful as a hint, but they do not replace checking the operator’s certificate.

Private jet charter websites we consult

This is an editorial selection of private jet charter websites, updated October 2026. ELRE is not a party to the transport contract: the links lead to official websites, where prices, availability and conditions are confirmed by the operator concerned. Compare several private jet charter quotations before you decide.

Fast Private Jet: Italian broker based in Dolcè (Verona)

Fast Private Jet S.r.l. is based in Dolcè, in the province of Verona, and publishes its VAT number and share capital of 650,000 euro in its footer. The site offers private jet charter, group charter flights, cargo, helicopters and aircraft acquisition. It is the natural choice for those departing from north-east Italy who prefer Italian counterparts.

Private Jet Finder: platform with offices in Dublin and Miami

Private Jet Finder belongs to PrivateJetFinder LTD, based in Dublin, and PrivateJetFinder LLC, based in Miami Beach. The site declares a global network of one thousand flight operators. It lets you search for a flight and get an instant price estimate, to be confirmed with the operator afterwards.

Villiers: broker based in London

Villiers Jets Limited is a company registered in the United Kingdom in 2013 (number 08525860 in the UK company register). It operates as a charter broker and declares access to more than 10,000 aircraft. As with any intermediary, it is worth asking for the name of the operator and reading independent reviews.

Transparency: what Elite Luxury Real Estate does and does not do

Elite Luxury Real Estate is an editorial and real estate advisory platform for high-end clients. It does not own aircraft, it is not an air carrier and it is not a flight broker. On this private jet charter page we do not collect quotation requests and we do not add mark-ups to operators’ prices.

Links to operators’ websites are simple links, opened in a new tab. If in future a link entitles ELRE to a commission, we will say so here clearly. The private jet charter selection follows editorial criteria: an identifiable company, readable terms, and a local language when possible.

The complete journey: jet, yacht and car

Those who choose private jet charter rarely stop at the flight. The journey starts at home and ends at the destination, and in between there are ports, runways and roads. That is why the three Luxury Living pages on movement are best read together.

If the destination is the sea, the page on luxury yacht charter explains costs, contract and seasons. If you need the last stretch by road, the page on private luxury mobility covers chauffeurs, prestige car rental and airport transfers.

A concrete example: landing at Olbia, a transfer to the harbour, boarding a yacht for a week along the Costa Smeralda. Three different services, three different operators, one itinerary to coordinate. Our pages help you reach that first quotation with the right questions.

Private jet charter: frequently asked questions

How long does it take to book a private jet charter?

There is no standard time: it depends on aircraft availability and the period. State the departure and arrival airports, dates, times and number of passengers from the start: the broker checks the options and sends a quotation. The more flexible you are, the more alternatives you receive.

The broker finds the aircraft and proposes the flight, but does not perform it. The operator is the certified company that runs the aircraft, has the crew and answers for the execution of the flight. Always ask for the operator’s name.

It is the air operator certificate that, under the European regulation on air operations, is required for commercial air transport. In Italy ENAC issues it and publishes the list of certified operators.

Some operators offer pet-friendly flights. It must be stated at the request stage, because it depends on the aircraft, the operator and the health documents required by the destination country.

It is a positioning flight the aircraft makes without passengers. Some brokers offer it at a reduced price, with a precise window of dates and times. It suits one-way routes with flexible dates.

It depends on the contract. As an example, AlbaJet provides 50% of the price after signing and 100% within 15 days of departure. Other operators have different conditions: read them before you confirm.
